homebrew Ventures covers
« on: June 28, 2015, 10:09:06 am »
The Ventures were a huge part of my baptism into playing the guitar, and part of my education in doing so, once I got going.  Every so often, I find myself returning "to those thrilling days of yester-year" and recording a tribute cut.  Here are a few of the ones I've done.

The last three all feature the Hallmark 59 Custom guitar.  It is the only guitar I used on "Surf Rider" and "Walk Don't Run '64".

Pardon my ignorance.  In spite of being a fan for 5 decades, I don't know anything about this fanfest.  Can you  direct me to someplace where I can educate myself?

Thanks!

I found one more, although it's not exactly a Ventures cover.  But then, it's not exactly NOT one, either.   :P  The Ventures did, after all, do a version of Telstar.  I was unable to find a version of them doing More (Theme from Mondo Cane), though.

I always thought these songs had enough in common that they should meet somehow, someday.  After many years, I got tired of waiting and did it myself.

Holy smokes!  Thanks for the links.  I guess it's good that I'd never heard Nokie do More, 'cos I might have just given up the attempt if I'd heard that first!  I'm a flat-picker almost entirely, and he's been a finger-picker since before I could wire my own guitar.

I think I will have to miss the fanfest, unfortunately.  Pennsylvania is a long way to go (from California) for a one-day event, and even longer if I were trying to lug guitars and amps, cables and footpedals.  I will be there in spirit, however!

Don't wanna heer nunna that "be there in spirit" stuff.  Brazil's a lot farther than CA, and we had someone from there attend last year.
No need to bring anything other than your warm body.  All the quipment u need (and thensum) is "there".

In the old days, Apollo took three days to get to the moon.  10 years ago it took The NASA spacecraft, New Horizons only 9 hours to fly past it! Ventures in Space!  Can you believe it, a rondevoux with Pluto on Tuesday?

It's less than 24 hours from Northeast Brazil to Philadelphia International by jet!  There will be 2 of us:  Me, Myself and I and my wife Lúcia!  I'm a big fan of only 40 some years and I'm leaving my computer at home.  Flying in from California may seem pretty long, but it's just the time zone thing.  You'll make it up on the way back!
