NEVER TOO EARLY...
« on: January 26, 2014, 03:35:45 pm »
For the 'fan fest host' to put his 'thinkin ' cap'
on for the next gathering- OCTOBER 4th this
year.

Bob Spalding, our special guest at the event
the last four years has 'consistently' said to
me at each fest's conclusion- "Tom let's try
to come up with something special for next
year."

In 2012 only two day after our fest, some of
the local fans here took Bob & his wife Artie on
a tour of THE MARTIN GUITAR FACTORY in
Nazereth, Pa.   Just minutes after finishing the
tour, Bob was treatin' us to his own version of
CLASSICAL GAS.   Needless to say that turned
into a 'special acoustic segment' at last year's
gathering.

This year I've decided in conjunction with our
headlining band THE PICKNIKS to incorporate
SOME JAZZ NUMBERS into the mix.   We have
quite a few competent guitarists on hand that
will have no problem handling this genre.   Why
in the back of my mind (if he's willing) I see Mr.
Spalding himself offerin' up several acoustic solos
within the songs selected.   Still workin' on titles!

My first idea.   They may or may not be others.
We do 'already have' scheduled a 45 minute segment
towards the end of the day titled:   THE VENTURES play
THE BEACH BOYS.   We're leanin' towards a twelve song
offering where all the jammers get involved doin' titles that
were never covered by 'our heroes.'

Deposit for the KNIGHT'S venue will officially take place on
March 4th ensuring a full day's jammin' come October!

Noel Squitieri is in charge of 'the project.'
Not sure what titles he had in mind but
I'm sure they're subject for review.

Please weigh in here with your favorites
or those you think would make 'great'
instrumentals.

Amongst the locals, many of whom aren't
jammers but do attend the fest religiously
every year- when told of 'the special segment'
replied with:   "Tom there's a reason why THE
VENTURES only covered one Beach Boy's song
in their career & even that was horrible!"

Your thoughts Mr. Walt & did you really enjoy
SLOOP JOHN B?

Someone should axes Donn E boy WHY they chose 2 record certain toons like soup jon b....my guess is they were 4ced @ gunpoint by their producer to du it.

Many vocals simply do knot lend themselfs 2 instros.  soup jon b is won of them.

Try this.  Sum 1 stripped oot the vocals.  Some adVENTUREsome 4um member shood overdub a leed track on this, post it heer and sea howit sounds.

If dun venturstile, I sea this in the Bboggle style played onna JM.

Three 'great' posts Walt & a
challenge out to forum members
as well.   Maybe we can get NOEL to
'delve into' a few titles by overdubbing
lead guitar.

WOULDN'T IT BE NICE?

Beach Boys - I collected every record long ago until i met a few of them personally, then it became a bit different.  How about the song Noble Surfer from the LP 1963 - Surfing's Greatest Hits Featuring the Beach Boys.  pretty catchy tune.

Another song that could go over well and get everyone on their feet, Rock n Roll to the rescue.  It is also a great6 showcase for the drummer.
