FanFest 2016--Blu-ray disk?
« on: February 03, 2016, 05:00:44 pm »
A blu-ray disk requires either a standalone blu-ray disk player or a blu-ray disk player in your computer, and software capable of playing blu-ray disks.
Currently FanFest requires 3 Dual layer disks, just for the musical performances.
Based upon my estimates, 3 blu-ray disks would be required to produce a true HD version.

Currently the DL disks provide the same resolution as a standard definition DVD.

Thanx for doing the research Walt.   We
probably have jammers who are still using
regular DVD players so at this point it isn't
a 'viable' option anyway!

Goin' with DL's this year proved to be a wise
decision on your part.   We eliminated 2 xtra
single layer discs in the process & the VIDEO
QUALITY & SOUND has improved each year!

We don't have either a blue ray player or DVD player. We had too much bad luck with them.
Most of our computers do have DVDs readers.

Have you considered using flash drives? I know they are not as reliable, but flash drives are cheap and many new TVs can read them.

That's a thought Steve- I'll have to discuss your suggestion with Walt.   & I've gotta
touch base with Kanad Ghose as well on the post fest approach with all our footage!
He said he also had a few ideas!

Flash drive?  Just take your DVD, put it in a computer drive and copy the VOB files to it.  Newer SMART TVs can read those, so I see no sense selling USB drives.  I also see a security problem as well.  Depending what machine it was copied from, there is the risk of malware.  A hidden file named autorun.inf can cause older unprotected systems to automatically play the flash drive in your computer and install software or worse. Flash drives - don't take this risk, however slight.
TIP:  Do you have The Ventures music and videos on your SMART phones or tablets? Get a inexpensive Chromecast (versions 1 or 2), made by Google.  For $35 or less, you can broadcast from your phone or tablet to your PC from across the room, remote control.  You can also get a cheap ($35-40) discontinued Google Nexus Player and hook it up to your SMART TV.  It has storage and is portable!
I work in Computer repair and test Apps and hardware for a living - The Ventures music by my side at all times!

All very informative.   I'll be seeing STEVE CRUZ in a couple
Saturdays down at Dennis Cote's so I'll share your thoughts
with him 'bout the 'flash drive route.'

And I still need to touch base with Kanad Ghose.   Me thinks
he also has a couple different approaches!

A flash drive with The Ventures logo sounds cool, I'd buy one for sure!~ Make it 128 gigabytes capacity as my Ventures digital collection is nearly 50 gigabytes and I can then add some videos to it.

Keep that thought buddy- it's a 'good one'
& one that should be run by FIONA TAYLOR
at the fest in October.   Last I heard (recently)
she's planning on making 'her first' fest!
