The Surf Guitar 101 Website is a forum that offers thousands of informative posts about The Ventures. Some of the members of SG101 have known Nokie Edwards and Don Wilson from the beginning of surf music and probably watched Leon grow up, while others are newer friends. They are people who were and are part of surf music from the first recognized releases in 1961 (Dick Dale's "Let's Go Trippin" and the Belairs' "Mr. Moto") until today. I think at least one other member of this group belongs to SG101.

As time permits I'm going to search SG101 for topics about The Ventures that may be of interest. I'll put the results of my searches here in this topic to make them easy to locate, by such categories as Ventures Music, Ventures Guitars, Ventures Amps, Ventures Sound and so on. I'll try to minimize overlapping results. You'll be able to click on the links in these search results and read the discussions without having to join SG101. But you won't be able to search SG101 unless you join.

As an introduction, here is a brief first-hand history of surf music that mentions The Ventures, written by SG101 member and co-founder (along with Eddie Bertrand) of the Belairs, Paul Johnson. Paul is still performing and recording today. Enjoy.

Here's a quote from the topic about The Ventures Christmas album. These posts are full of this sort of thing.

"I just asked Don Wilson about 10 minutes ago and while he didn't remember specifically he said he was pretty sure it was Mosrite because of the time it was made. He's getting together with Bob Bogle tomorrow to do some recording and said they'll talk about it and see if it jars any memories and get back to me."

Happy browsing.

I couldn't resist adding this set of search results just before I go practice guitar. These are a mixed bag of all things related to Nokie Edwards.

That's great, Noel.  That would be very helpful.  While there is a great deal of consolidated information on Shadows gear, there is virtually none on the Ventures'.

My best,

Andy

I think Noel is "elected" to be our inhouse Ventures historian. ;)

Some of the best Ventures bands are in Japan. There's lots of info and links to eleki here.

They are SERIOUS about The Ventures. I'm sure these guys will be all over those 500,000 yen Don Wilson Signature Surf Reverb amps.
