An "In Space" LP finally
« on: July 11, 2012, 10:00:26 pm »
I am quite pleased to announce that a major anomaly has been corrected.  I now have the "In Space" LP!  The album survived the trip from the US to Manila and arrived safely today.  It has been 48 years since I held that album!  It brings back such memories.

I have had "In Space" in CD format for some time, of course, and also in Lossless format on my iPod, but the feel and impact of an LP are so different.  "In Space" created quite a stir among my high school classmates; the new sounds and the cover photo were spectacular. One of my classmates even noticed the knee of the girl sitting in the hot rod, so I had to look now to see if that was really there! We really pored over those albums and knew the arrangements ny heart. The father a classmate was a audioohile and had a large and complicated system at his home, with horns and all that.  He said "this is the best album the Ventures put out so far," referring to the recording quality.

"In Space" was also the last Ventures record I bought and alos my last contact with them.  By 1964, I had with the rest of the teenagers here (a fickle bunch) moved on to the Beatles and company, succumbing to the British Invasion.

I just showed the record to my secretary, who is 28 years old, and she had never seen a long-playing record before!  The 1960 WDR album standing against a wall on my sidedesk is still in a sealed plastic sleeve, so she had no idea what it contained.  I will place the "In Space" album next to it, so I can see it constantly.  I have no record player, but those are two, very strong incentives.

A member here at this forum, having learned of the gap in my tiny collection, was instrumental in getting the album to me.  Many, many thanks.

Andy

In Space was a classic V LP AND it was where we all heard Mosrite guitars for the 1st time.  I love the pic on the back of that LP. ;D

Walt, "In Space" was released in October 1963, if I'm not mistaken.  As a historical note, look at the photo of Bob Bogle that I posted in the Jazzmaster Years thread. That photo was probably taken in about April 1962.  It shows Bob with a Mossrite!

Yep. "In Space" was the beginning of the "Mosrite Years" though there are rumors of Mosrites being used on a couple of the "Let's Go" tracks.
