Teaching music with Ventures songs
« on: August 21, 2013, 10:36:26 am »
Hi, I'm new in this forum. My name is Henk, I'm 64 years old and have -obviously- been playing (in different styles) for a long time. I live in the beautiful city of Amsterdam (The Netherlands).
I'd like to share ideas about teaching to relatively unexperienced guitar students. I used to 'force' them into studying the well known methods (William Leavitt f.i.) and found it very difficult  -especially younger students- to keep them interested. What I do now is teach them songs from the Ventures and similar groups.
First it (still) is interesting MUSIC and besides I can show them all kinds of theoretical principles as they appear abundetly: scales, harmony, rhythm, guitaristic tricks,  etc. Also is it possible to teach reading through this material, with fast results. Of course I also supply additional material.

Hi Henk- welcoMe aboard.   I'm Tom Baltaeff,
co-moderator of the site.   Walt will, no doubt
be along shortly to formally welcome you.

Your teaching expertise should prove 'quite valuable'
to our forum.   After all, we follow & support-

THE BAND THAT LAUNCHED A THOUSAND BANDS!

As you say, their music remains the 'perfect choice' for
young guitarists to start their craft!
