Wrecking Crew
« on: February 04, 2013, 12:13:45 pm »
Hello everyone.....

Was Mel Taylor a part of the wrecking crew?  I thought I read that somewhere but don't remember where.    I've seen that photo of him on drums and Hal Blaine playing tambourine.      If yes...what songs (other than Monster Mash) did he play on.

thanks

chuck

Chuck- Was under the impression most of Mel's session work came
earlier in his career when he wasn't involved with The Ventures.   I
can add the original ALLEY OOP as a song he played on & he got a
call late one night to be the drummer on SUNNY- the Neil Hefty song
but declined.   Then we are aware of the 'did he or didn't he' play on
Herb Alpert's LONELY BULL?

That's the extent of what I can add to the discussion!

As a drummer myself & my own opinion-  He was a drummer for a
cover band which meant he had to know all the different styles &

as his own son has mentioned several times- in 2011 matter of fact
during a Q&A at my annual Oct. fan fest-

" My dad was very underated as a drummer.   Quite powerful & complete
& I'm told one of Keith Moon's favorite drummers."

Mel definately played on the original Fugitive recorded by Jan Davis:

and possibly played with the Cryptkickers on Monster Mash.
