Fretboard radius-picky-picky!
« on: June 03, 2014, 03:35:34 pm »
Does anyone have a comment or ten about the fretboard radius for Bob Shade's 60's Custom. I emailed him and he stated the radius is 13.0". I am so used to Fender's 9.5" radius. I usually sell any guitar with a flatter radius within a month or two. Chords and notes are just more comfortable with the smaller radius. (Just speaking for myself of course).

I guess I should also ask if anyone knows the radius on the Aria inexpensive Mosrite clone too.

The radius will not be a deal breaker when I'm ready to buy, but maybe at that time I can ask Bob to make a different radius.
I try to play and record all of my favorite Ventures tunes. Approximately 300 so far. Still wishing for a Mosrite or copy some day.

I have small hands (among other things) and my pref is the C shape fender vintage neck and I have several strats and a tele with these necks.

Bob's guitar neck feels just like the original mosrite, 2 me anyway.  I have no trubbul playin it....it feels quite comfortable.

I also have one of Nokie's Hitchiker geetars.  That neck is a little wider, which is an improvement over the mosrite neck but it DUZ feel wider in your hand.

It's all what you get used to. ;)

Thank you sir! I too like the old 7.250" Fender radius. 'Have a Squier with a replacement neck at that radius. My hands object to Gibson neck shapes with flatter boards and say, Ibanez shape necks. If the Shade guitar is more Fenderish in shape, then all would be good.
