Ventures Fan Fest / 2017 Ventures Fan Fest- UPDATE!!!
« on: July 05, 2017, 03:19:57 pm »
We were 'excited' to learn that THE VENTURES 'summer kick-off'
gigs with THE SURFARIS on the west coast mid-June went off
'without a hitch,' generating large crowds of surf music lovers
determined to keep that 'genre' as viable today as it was in the
60's.

As most of you know, THE VENTURES are gettin' ready & will soon
be off to Japan for what constitutes their 55th anniversary sharing
their music with that country.   The lineup will again be Leon Taylor,
Bob & Ian Spalding & Gerry McGee.

& now that they've netted a few US gigs, the hope upon 'the guys'
return is to 'tie-in' some East Coast concert dates with our annual
fest Saturday October 7th.   Yes, that's right- we're 'holding out hope
THE US VENTURES grace us with their presence at the fest this year.

& speaking about the fest, I've decided to bring back a Bob Spalding
idea from back in 2011 when Leon Taylor also attended the all day
gathering- the FIFTEEN + minute 'grand finale' of WIPE OUT!

That'll do it for now with 'updates!'

Ventures Fan Fest / 2016 FanFest.....it's a wrap!
« on: October 30, 2016, 03:13:01 am »
Tom Baltaeff- fest moderator here.   Be the first
to review this years October 1st offering.   By all
means, 'feel free' to include the Friday Sept. 30th
'meet & greet' dinner buffet & the pre-fest Sat. AM
breakfast 'in your mix.'

We 'nearly' reached 100 attendies & that figure inc.
over 50 'newbies' to the event.   It would be a 'treat'
to see a lot of new names here attached to reviews!

Can't wait to read all the 'positive' vibes & hey if you
have a suggestion or two to better it 'going forward,'
we will take note & discuss the feasibility!

Happy to report I've received 'tentative set lists from
a couple jammers to this point with just over FIVE

Last year, we had six groupings of musicians.   We
should be a couple beyond that this time around.   I
'pretty much' request anywhere from 8 to 12 songs
per grouping.   The first two jammers to respond with
their lists this year were KANAD GHOSE & CHRIS MONK.

Ventures Fan Fest / 2016 FAN FEST ID CARD
« on: March 06, 2016, 10:20:49 pm »
This will be the 'third' consecutive year that I chose
to use the 'same design' for the fest ID CARD.   So
other than the date change & the fact I allowed a tad
more' space for the 'name tag,' the attached photo is
pretty much a repeat of our '014 & '015 versions.

We will also be offering out a different 'commemorative'
tee shirt at the event this year.   The design will remain
the same (front) but instead of a white tee, we're changin'
the color to tan.

Ventures Fan Fest / '016 FEST SONG SUGGESTIONS?
« on: February 18, 2016, 10:36:30 am »
Decided to reach out to the forum members for some
SONG SUGGESTIONS for our 'gathered' jammers
come SATURDAY OCTOBER 1ST, 2016!

In the past several years, what's made the annual fest
'better than ever' each go-round is the fact these 'stalwart'
VENTURES FANS have themselves become 'cover bands,' in
many instances lately covering songs 'our heroes' never did
in their long career.   One year we successfully 'pulled off' a
VENTURES PLAY THE BEACH BOYS twelve song set.

Some of the suggestions from our jammers this year include:

REBEL WALK & CANNONBALL by Duane Eddy
F.B.I. by The Shadows
FREIGHT TRAIN by Rusty Draper
THAT'LL BE THE DAY by Buddy Holly
THIS DIAMOND RING by Gary Lewis & the Playboys
BYE BYE LOVE by The Everly Brothers

just to name a few!

I plan to submit the 'official' 2016 list to all jammers by mid-March
so get your thoughts in ASAP!

Thank you- fest host Tom B.

General Discussion / NAMM SHOW this week ANEHEIM, CALIFORNIA
« on: January 19, 2016, 09:50:48 am »
Yeah this gets a thumbs up 'cause The Ventures will be
represented at the WILSON BROTHERS GUITAR booth.
The 'contingent' will include both Don Wilson & his son
Tim, along with the Ventures manager Fiona Taylor &
I'm told, select musicians from The Ventures over the
years.   Joe Barile & John Durrill were asked to attend.
Sadly, current Ventures Bob & Ian Spalding, along with
Leon Taylor will not be on hand this time 'round.   Bob
did say that on Thursday evening, Don was planning to
play a mini-set with some friends.

Wanted to get this head's up out there for all our members
planning to attend.   Walt & I hope everyone in 'The Ventures
Circle' has a super time!

Ventures Fan Fest / 2016 VENTURES INTERNATIONAL FEST TEASER!
« on: January 15, 2016, 12:21:02 am »
After last years fest in October, at the suggestion of Walt Stagner, I
declared the date for our '016 gathering 'right away' on our facebook
page, then immediately set up the '016 VERSION of the same.   Prior
years, this never happened 'til the new year was upon us.

I also joined three other 'music related' facebook pages & set up 'the fest'
as an event there as well.   To this point early in the year, I already have
40+ individuals 'maybe or interested' in attending this October.

With all this in mind & keepin' with the theme of lookin' for ways to increase
attendance, today, at the suggestion of good friend & fellow jammer Forrest
Kulwin, I put together, then uploaded to my YOUTUBE channel an '016 FEST
TEASER than runs approximately 18 minutes.

It is available at- tab11balt11

I will also look to turn the video into a DVD should anyone want a copy of this
GEM!   For a nominal shipping & handling fee, I'd be more than happy to send
one along.   Details- tabalt11@yahoo.com

ENJOY!   It was a lot of fun workin' on this mini-project!   & if you happen to be
one of our 'regular jammers,' please post a review of past fests in the comments
section provided!

FEBRUARY 29th UPDATE:   I have since tidied up the original teaser, dropped one
song in favor of a 'crowd pleaser,' & changed the rhetoric in spots.   It's uploaded
to the same channel as '016 FEST TEASER ALTERNATE.   Don't forget to comment!

General Discussion / HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
« on: November 25, 2015, 10:05:33 pm »
As annual fan fest host & co-moderator of FANS OF...
& speaking on behalf of WALT, we'd like to wish ALL OUR
MEMBERS a safe & happy holiday weekend amongst family
& friends.   Let's face it, we're not just talkin' 'tummy satisfaction'
here.   We all have plenty to be thankful for.

& as we get ready to enter December, we need to lean on THE
VENTURES three holiday contributions to keep our spirits on the
straight & narrow.   They'll be no waning whatsoever as we first
pop in the original Xmas LP on CD.   Remember at the time how
the 'clever intros' per holiday track had the industry saying "these
guys can do no wrong!"   Then ROCKIN' XMAS was released, which
essentially was re-recordings of the twelve tunes from the initial re-
lease plus a few newbies.   Loved the cover art on that.  They also
used it on their Christmas card to fans that year.   Lastly, XMAS JOY
expanded the variety of holiday titles while keeping intact the original
idea' with the intros.

As 'the guys' prepare to enter their 56th year in music, two things stand
out IMO regarding their amazing 'staying power.'   Whether handling the
current musical phase at the time or holiday favorites, they never allowed
themselves to become 'stale' as a band.   Couple that with the fact that the
two founding members- Don Wilson & Bob Bogle never stepped on any toes
along the way!

Thumbs up to The Ventures as their musical legacy continues!
