Sad news..apparently he passed away a day or so ago..he was 69..

Jim was the original lead guitarist in The Surfaris and played on Wipe Out and a number of subsequent hits..

Please excuse my ignorance, but...

When the Ventures started out touring etc did they ever feature any or many vocals as part of their live show?

I've only ever seen Don sing Runaway but that was a 1980's live tape...

Did they sing in their early days, or was it all instrumentals?

His instrumental Memphis was of course also covered by the Ventures...

HI Walt!

Hello from Australia!

About time I joined your site--the UK Shadows site is fine, but a lot of folks over there on that site are anti- Ventures!

As I've said before I love the music of the Shadows, the Ventures, Australia's own Atlantics, and most other guitar instrumental  groups/bands and solo guitarists.

I look forward to participating here- thanks for setting up the site!

p.s  Although I like most of the Ventures material, I'm a big fan of Nokie and the mid period 'Mosrite' era...
