SADLY newbeeter we had to CANCEL this years
gathering scheduled for Sat. Oct. 10th.

We're lookin' into 'the strong possibility' of havin'
it in The Spring of '21 (late May or early June) &
will post more details on FANS OF when we nailed
down specifics!

Thanx for your interest in THE FAN FEST!

The fests we held both in '18 & '19 were hugely successful.
In '18 we honored 'legendary' NOKIE EDWARDS & last year
celebrated the band's 60TH ANNIVERSARY.   We had planned
to honor GERRY MC GEE this year!

Well sir- despite the fact that you're co-moderater
of this site & a good friend also, that'll have to be a
'secret' for now.   Here's a teaser of sorts though!

I can say I've 'already' gotten the ball rollin' on (2)
very special tributes totaling about (8) songs apiece
& each grouping on hand throughout the day will be
responsible for honoring Gerry with at least (1) title
from his days with The Ventures!

THANX MEL- 9th & Final Set List:

This was an idea I came up with post-fest last year after
watching our (12) year old 'drum prodigy' DANNY ROBERTS
along with 'Big John Magee' on bass wow the audience with our
grand finale of CARAVAN.   At the fest this year, I'll probably share
the 'unique' story' 'bout how young Danny came to be Mel's biggest fan.

So with that in mind, I challenged the boy 'real good' back in December '18
by asking that he learn Mel's greatest 'drum efforts' while with THE VENTURES.
The list I gave him is below & I have no doubt in my mind he'll pull it off as our
'all encompasing' grand finale for 'fest 2019!'

WABASH CANNONBALL, WIPE OUT, CRUNCHER,
LET THERE BE DRUMS, WDR MEDLEY, THE CREEPER
& CARAVAN

Still going strong, the particulars for this year's annual
gathering are below:

SATURDAY OCTOBER 5TH- 9 AM to 9 PM

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
1195 Haverford Rd.
Crum Lynne, Pa.   19022

60TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

COVER CHARGE $60 INCLUDES BREAKFAST, LUNCH & DINNER

Yes, we'll be celebrating the 60th anniversary of the band which
coincides with our 11TH YEAR continuing their legacy as the biggest
selling & most popular instrumental band in the history of recorded music.

OLDSKOOL hailing from Danville, Virginia will be returning as one of our
featured bands & additionally, we hope to have on hand an additional (8)
groupings made up of avid Ventures fans/musicians doing their part to more
than cover the (12) hour event.   Memorabilia tables will be set up as usual &
Ventures merchandise available for purchase.   We'll also conduct an auction &
engage in Q&A sessions.   There's also a chance attendees will get to rub elbows
with members of The Ventures as well.

With the unfortunate passing of DICK DALE this year, I've served notice to our
regular jammers that a signiture song or two of his is 'mandatory' within their sets!

Last year, our theme was "Remembering Nokie Edwards" & we had special T-shirts
made up with the blessing of his wife Judy.   They will be available again for those
who weren't fortunate enough to purchase one.   A new T-shirt is also presently being
designed to commemorate the 60TH ANNIVERSARY!

Contact E-mail is:   tabalt11@yahoo.com or I can be reached at (610) 789-4894/609-6963

Name is Tom Baltaeff & we'd love to register you for this special event!

Tour Dates / EARLY 2019 VENTURES TOUR
« on: December 20, 2018, 02:14:57 am »
The Ventures just completed a successful early December
East Coast tour & will now take The Holidays off to get 'their
mojo' back full-force for another series of concerts scheduled
mid-January '19.

I caught the Saturday December 8th show at SELLERSVILLE THEATER
in Sellersville, Pa. uniquely labeled 'A Very Ventures Xmas' & plan to be
on hand at one of the upcoming shows in Virgina.   On my 1st lucky nite,
they played over 90 minutes interspersing their regular line-up of songs
with not only 'the entire original' Xmas LP but including a handful of later
covered xmas titles from follow-up releases.   The band came across 'tighter
than ever' thanks to Ian Spalding on rhythm & newest Venture Lucas Griffin
on bass.

Perhaps some of our members here were also lucky enough to catch 'the guys'
earlier this month.   You do know there's a section on this forum for 'concert
reviews' right?   Anyway, I'm gonna wait 'til after the Alexandria, Virginia show
to come on here with a more detailed rundown of just what one can expect from
'the latest personnel lineup!'

For now- let's continue the legacy of the band by attending one or more of these
upcoming dates:

January 16th '19- THE TIN PAN               Richmond, VA
January 17th '19- THE BIRCHMERE          Alexandria, VA
January 18th '19- THE STONE PONY         Asbury Park, NJ
January 19th '19- IRON HORSE HALL        Northampton, MA

Ventures Fan Fest / 2018 INTERNATIONAL FAN FEST- HOST REVIEW!
« on: December 20, 2018, 01:44:02 am »
Be patient gang- I'm working on it & will get it
up here ASAP!

Also since THE VENTURES new lineup has rec'd
another East Coast handful of bookings once again
since their return from their annual Japan Summer
Tour, I'll report on the shows I've attended & hope to
attend mid-January 2019.

While I get my thoughts together on those two topics,
a 'reminder' if you will to join my fest facebook page
devoted to continuing THE VENTURES legacy & check
out my YOUTUBE channel- tab11balt11 where 'fest clips'
are plentiful spanning the (10) year annual event!

General Discussion / Re: Ventures Vinyl of the Month Discussion
« on: December 20, 2018, 01:24:30 am »
Co-moderator Tom here making everyone aware that
our 'newbie' here VENTURESSHADOW was 'nice enough'
a couple years back to provide me (100) copies of a demo
disc of his band to hand out at my annual VENTURES FAN FEST.
I still have a batch still left & plan to make them (1) of next year's
handouts.

General Discussion / Re: Keep this forum, Fans of the Ventures open or not.
« on: December 20, 2018, 01:18:45 am »
It's time for the co-moderator to weigh-in & even tho
voting is over, an apology from me for being a bit lax
weighin' in from time-to-time with FEST RELATED INFO.

Over the next week or so, I've got alot of posts to read
here (labeled new) but old in my case.   I'll then try to
get back on the stick with fest related posts along with a
few recent tour stories as the band is back doing selected
concerts here in The States.

So sorry gang but it's OK if you label me 'a slacker!'

Hey there 'newbie.'   Nice to have you aboard.   I'm
one of the co-moderators of the site.   Walt will be
along shortly to welcome you to 'the family' as well.

I had 'totally' forgot my 2015 Thangsgiving Greeting.
Thanx for taking the time to introduce yourself with a
reply!

12
What are you lookin' for MR. CO-MODERATOR?
LOL!

The sets you see above have not changed.  &
I only owed 'you guys' one additional set which
is listed below.

KANAD & SAUGATA GHOSE:

OUT OF LIMITS, BLUE STAR, HANG ON SLOOPY, PEDAL PUSHER,
VICTORIA STATION, DETROIT CITY/ONE MORE TIME, SWINGIN' CREEPER,
GET SMART THEME, RAP CITY, BLUE CHRISTMAS, SUMMER AFFAIR, SAMOVER &
I WALK THE LINE

We'll have two featured bands this year- THE PICKNIKS & OLDSKOOL.   Those
bands did not submit set lists.  They wanna 'surprise' us.   Can say tho that 'the
guys' that comprise OLDSKOOL will offer up several vocals within their set!

Philly's 'very first' rock 'n roll star- MR. CHARLIE GRACIE will deliver a talk & perform
a half-dozen songs- (three of them instrumentals) prior to dinner.  I've requested his
band perform WALK, DON'T RUN for their final number.

Tina Edwards, (Nokie's daughter) & Jill Wilson (Don's daughter will attend & lead a
NOKIE EDWARDS REMEMBERED tribute shortly after dinner!

Our grand finale this year will be a 'longer than usual' version of CARAVAN with (11)
year old DANNY ROBERTS manning the drums & performing the bass tattoo as well in
front of the drum kit!

Interviews & Praise / VINTAGE GUITAR MAGAZINE!
« on: September 13, 2018, 02:55:42 pm »
I'm being told by regular fest attendee. good friend &
longtime VENTURES fan Vic Hines that VINTAGE GUITAR
MAGAZINE is currently conducting their annual 'online' HALL
OF FAME inductions in various categories.   We both seem to think
that a fellow by the name of NOKIE EDWARDS should be a shoo-in for
a LEGENDARY PLAYER & or INNOVATOR nomination.

Vic further adds that we all have to 'get cracking' on this since only (4)
days remain for posting your ONLINE choices.   The process is simple enough-
google search Vintage Guitar Magazine & follow the prompts!

LET'S MAKE THIS HAPPEN FOLKS!

14
It's 'rather complicated' Walt.   I have all the backing info
noted but just 'too much' to post everything.

KEN ARNOLD's band consists of:

Jeff Green on rhythm, John Magee on bass & Tom Connolly on drums

NOTE that RICHARD FRANKLIN & HARDKUCHO ERIQUES will play with
backing tracks.  I like to think of LES FRADKIN as a one man band tho
I suspect he has a few players in mind that'll join him.

Within my personal set, there will be lots of switchin' in & out amongst
lead & rhythm players.   The one constant is that John Magee will handle
bass throughout, tho Saugata Ghose will play bass on the medley of
ONLY THE YOUNG/SILVER BELLS.   Below I've listed what I can in regards
to the other players joining me.

Pipeline, Trambone, Sukiyaki & Penetration- Bob Dowd (L) Kanad Ghose/James Cook (R) & Tom C. (AD) on Penetration
Only The Young/Silver Bells- Kanad Ghose (L) Bob Dowd (R) & Danny Roberts (AD)
A Taste Of Honey- Byron Tietjen (L) James Cook (R) & Danny Roberts (AD)
Needles & Pins- Ken Arnold (L) Jeff Green (R) & Danny Roberts (AD)
A Swingin' Creeper, California Dreamin,' & Summer Place- Les Fradkin (L) Byron Tietjen (R) & Tom C., Danny Roberts (AD)

15

I've lined up so far with approximate times:
