Have a wonderful 2015 Fan Fest, everyone! Although I have to be in Pittsburgh that day to kick off the move, I'll be with you all in spirit. I'm already looking forward to 2016. See you then!

So...

I want to wish everyone a wonderful time this year! I'm very sorry I'm not able to be there with you. I'll be thinking of all the fun you're having while I start moving furniture into place, and setting up beds and everything.

Happy trails!
Noel

While we haven't reserved the date yet with the moving company, it looks very likely that we move the same weekend as the fan fest. We've settled on the new house, and pre-move work is underway.

Good news is the house has several areas for playing music, including a 14 X 32 underground music room that's already plumbed for a wet bar. We're planning to host house concerts.

As many of you know, we are moving. This has forced me to abandon plans to play at the fan fest this year. We hope to be moved by then, although better be moved is more accurate. Being unpacked and settled in is impossible, so I have no idea yet if I can even attend this year. Chances are no better than 50/50. But I will do what I can. I'll keep everyone in my thoughts, and try to make it happen, and I'll post here when I know more.

With the news that The Pickniks can't make one of the dates, and that John Drysdale has also had to withdraw from one as well, I think it is time to call it a day. At least for now.

I want to thank everyone for their interest and desire. I will keep this idea alive for now; it's just too much fun not to do at some point.

Bump!

Is anyone else going to claim open parts for songs? Several people have told me they'll be there. If you tell me what you're going to play, I'll update the session list.

It's getting to be crunch time.

Happy trails!

Hello everyone,

Just a reminder that there are lots of parts in lots of songs which still lack coverage. The sooner these empty slots are filled, the better. Jeff Green volunteering to play the chunky guitar parts on two songs is just what's needed.

For example, Good Vibrations needs two bass players. I play the acoustic bass and cello triplets, but someone else needs to play the electric bass part. Big John played this at the Fan Fest, but I have no idea if he can participate in the recording. I wish and hope he can. And a guitarist has to cover Mike Love's vocal, which is very similar to but not identical to the walking bass line, and of course isn't in the bass register.

As Jeff mentioned, the better we are all prepared to play our own parts, the quicker we can come together as an ensemble. If we mostly need to spend time on each song's intro and outro, then we can make short work of rehearsing each song.

Thanks to everyone for agreeing to participate! I anticipate this will be a lot of fun.

Happy Trails!
Noel

Thanks, Jeff! And I just heard from John Drysdale that we have our keyboard player. I'm updating the player's list accordingly.

Updated list of participants/songs.

The Pickniks have asked to play the same songs they played in October. Byron, Carl and Steve have already indicated they can't participate. I'm pretty sure we have our keyboardist, but I won't post it here until I have conformation on the dates.

Anyone else who wants to and can participate in making this record, including those who didn't play these songs in October, should call out their parts in songs. You can just add a reply with your name, song, and instrument/part, and I'll post an updated list including you.

I have a Fender Villager 12-string acoustic-electric I can bring, in case someone wants to play it on California Girls and Sloop John B.

Tom,

Jeff sent his original to them. But that list is limited to just those of us who were part of the segment. I don't have emails for all the other jammers, including some folks who expressed interest that night. I'm hoping they see it here.

From Jeff Green - Part 2

John Ramski and Bob Kenney are still Eastlake residents and may be able to secure The Eastlake Community Center for the recording project.

OK---that was the easy part!

The problematic issues to consider are -

#1  When will it be possible for everybody assemble here together at the same time?

#2   Will everyone absolutely have his parts well rehearsed before arrival? - there won't be time for extensive rehearsal.
        -  2 run throughs are about all that can be had for a tune before the recording commences. \
        -  We've learned that after setting up all the instruments and recording equipment, sound checks, and playbacks, the best we can do is 5
tunes in 4 hours.  And that's with only 2 takes necessary for us to get a good recording.
        -  If any punch-ins are needed, or percussion or vocal tracks added, more time is involved to achieve the desired results.

#3   Even if everyone arrives here well rehearsed, it is not possible to record all the Beach Boy tunes in one afternoon session.
        -  Remember, setting up musical equipment, sound checks etc.  That's a lot of shuffling about.
        -  You are all welcome to use our equipment.  This would allow the groups more recording time, less time shuffling equipment.

#4   Because of #3's implications - recording would have to be done on several weekends.
       -  Then could mean that some participants would have to make the journey here more than once.

Noel:  You don't have to make expenditures secure recording equipment; we Pickniks have a recording machine and microphones that can utilized.

We offer all the above information to helpfully enlighten everybody about the location and issues of the endeavor.

Reponses/Recommendations welcomed.

I just received a very thorough and encouraging email from Jeff Green of The Pickniks. Due to its length, I'm breaking it up into sections. THis is Part 1.

The Pickniks very wish to accommodate the mission, the problem is purely one of logistics, the least of these is the chosen destination for the project.

Our area is a perfect meeting ground in that it is easy to find and all the facilities required are along the stretch of one easy to drive, straight highway, within a distance of less than 5 miles.

--- REFER TO GOOGLE MAPS, WILLOUGHBY, OHIO ---

Regardless if you drive here from the east or the west, take Interstate 90 and leave that highway at Exit #189 North at Willoughby and Willoughby Hills, that's Interstate 90 at Ohio Route 91.

That's right!  It's so easy to remember!  Exit #189 at I-90 and Rt. 91!

Immediately north of that exit is a BP gas station and these eateries: Bob Evans, Cracker Barrel, Eat'n Park, Texas Roadhouse and Applebee's.

And these motels: Travelodge(Nokie and Judy Edwards stayed here in August 2003), Motel 6 and Courtyard.

Within a 1000 feet north of these facilities is a CVS, a Walgreen's and a Wendy's.

Although this section of Ohio Route 91 is highly developed, it's easy driving, it's not downtown like driving!

As you continue north on Ohio Route 91, you will cross over U.S Route 20, (The longest road in the U.S.A.) This is only 1 3/4 miles north of the Interstate 90 exit.

Immediately surrounding the area of that intersection is a Steak and Shake, Burger King, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Denny's, Dairy Queen and an IHOP.

About 1/2 mile north on Ohio Route 91 on the left is a Radisson Hotel.

About 1/4 mile later, on the right, you'll pass Classic Park, the home of the Lake County Captains, a Class A farm club of The Cleveland Indians.

Next you will arrive very quickly at Ohio Route 640(Vine Street - Eastlake, Ohio) a very unusual street, it's an west/east street that runs exactly straight for it entire length of 3 1/2 miles.

At this intersection there is a Walgreen's and if you turn right, there is a Chase Bank and across the street is Biagio's Donuts(World's Best Donuts!)

Traveling further north along Ohio Route 91 you'll cross over Stevens Blvd. North High School(we Pickniks all graduated from here!) is located about 1/2 mile to the left.

(Ask us about the UFO we spotted while we were driving past the school on September 4, 1965. The sighting of this object is included in Project Blue Book!)

Don't worry about driving too far north on Ohio Route 91.  From U.S. 20(Vine Street) to Ohio Route 283(Lakeshore Blvd.) is about 1 3/4 miles.

Ohio Route 91 north ends at Lakeshore Blvd.  You're now by The Eastlake City Hall and Police Station.  Right by here is the Eastlake Community Center.
