Miscellaneous Instro and Other / The Shadows--Turning Point
« on: January 13, 2012, 05:50:32 pm »
Mike Kuhn suggested I have a listen to Turning Point by The Shadows covered here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgF_c5A376E

and the original Shads version here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbtkdwWABYs

It's really a nice toon.  Very melodic.  Our band, GWG, has been considering doing Stack It:

Both of these do best with a keyboard or guitar synth, requiring a 5th band member which we sadly don't currently have.

Hi, Mike....you should have made a posting in the Welcome section...I would have welcomed you. ;D
For quik/dirt E communication, email is best.  You can PM (personal mail) any member of this forum by clicking on the mail icon.
You can use those other things you mention BUT for keeping a running history ORGANIZED BY CATEGORY/TOPIC, a forum like this is best.  It's why Tom and I started it.

How does one become a full member?
The board automatically tracks this.  It's simply based on the number of posts you make.  Wanna be a "full member", post more!

I got into this kind of by accident, via a TB message.  Then, I logged on via Yahoo.  I am not if this a Yahoo forum or a Facebook forum.  I feel kind of lost in this.
You shouldn't feel lost.  If I can do it, anyone can.

How is your band GWG coming along?
We lost 2 members do to personal/creative differences.  This leaves us with guess what?  Why, The Original Four, of course. :o

I think your band likes to play some Shadows material.
We do.

One of my favorite Shadows' albums is "Guardian Angel" (on CDin Germany on Roll Over Records / Teldec # 826084-ZP).  It has 11 songs; they're all great songs, but my favorite cut is "Turning Point" and I really wish The Ventures (and your band too!) would cover it.  It's a great melodic song with a great beat.  I think you will enjoy it too.
I've never heard of it, but will have a listen and post back here.

I hope your physical ordeal is over soon.  I couldn't endure what you are.
You're a better man than I.

Thanks for the kind words about the band.
We try to practice every week.
If you like some private links of some of our better stuff, try sending me a PM thru this forum.

I am here in Jefferson Hosp in Philadelphia in my hospital bed getting a three-chemo concoction and a steroid which makes me generally hungry 24/7.  I am glad I brought my laptop with me and hooked it up to the hospital's wi-fi system.  I have been able to check my email and listen to and watch Ventures' CDs and DVDs.
Lastly, I wanted to tell you that you can tell your band practices a lot, prob weekly.  Your music just sounded terrific.

     Best regards,

     M I K E

Here's a fantastic drum solo by the legendary Buddy Rich:

As we all know, Gene Krupa was a major influence on Mel Taylor.  We should post a few Gene Krupa links here.
