Introduction / DEL HALTERMAN
« on: April 07, 2015, 03:06:39 pm »
Member Dennis Cote from Newark, Delaware informed me late this
past Saturday night that LONGTIME VENTURES FAN Del Halterman,
shortly after a weekend gig on March 29th had a heart attack.   He's
currently awaiting bypass surgery at an Edmonton, Alberta hospital
in CANADA.

To this point in time, many of Del's friends have voiced their support
for 'full recovery' on various facebook pages & forums dedicated to THE
VENTURES, specifically ours & Underground Fire 2.

Walt & I continue to work towards gettin' additional 'related' information-
exact hospital name & address, room # & direct phone line.   Be patient.

In the meantime, feel free to enter your thoughts here or on any of the
other mentioned avenues.

I first met Del on the 2003 VENTURES CRUISE with LOS STRAITJACKETS.
Here & elsewhere he's been thanked countless times for being the 'greatest'
author ever in our eyes- simply 'cause he penned WALK, DON'T RUN- The
Story of The Ventures.   At this 'most critical' time in his life, let's provide all
the kind words & encouragement we can 'muster up' to help a dear friend pull
through this battle!

Let's hear it for Del many times over!

KUDOS go out today to Walt for 'tediously' workin' on last year's fan fest footage & providing me with
the (5) high quality DVD MASTERS that arrived yesterday for duplication.   It's a time-consuming
process each year but 'specially more so this time'round.  Our jammers & supporters will NO DOUBT
feel the extra wait time was more than worth it as they receive their sets over the next week or so.

Both Walt & I feel that the '014 production is 'our best ever' in terms of video & sound.   & when you
factored in the 'sophisticated' graphics & menus, it's easy to see why the collection is a MUST-HAVE for
all VENTURES & SHADOWS fans.   You can even add LOS STAITJACKETS to that list.

Today, I 'officially' posted FEST DVD SETS to the following loyal jammers & supporters:

General Discussion / THE FAREWELL TOUR?
« on: January 19, 2015, 10:59:45 pm »
Recently Bob Spalding of The Ventures was interviewed on
radio 'bout his time spent with the group over the years,
his own special recordings & his new project, the
launch of V2, his new band dedicated to the
art of the instrumental.   FANS OF has
uploaded the interview under the
category:

V2- The Art Of The Instrumental.

So, I NOW offer up the following topic- THE FAREWELL TOUR?

Specifically, this refers to (yes mentioned in Bob's interview) that
this summer's Japan tour will 'officially' be Don Wilson's last.   Also
it's no secret that Gerry McGee years ago made the decision to only
do the overseas shows.   Bob does go on to say that "The Ventures
will be in Japan."  But what I read into that statement was that the
country's 'countless tribute bands' would continue to carry on their
legacy of music.   At least initially, it appears V2 would concentrate
their playin' efforts here in the States.

Anyway, if you haven't listened to the entire interview yet, please do
so, then 'venture' back here to this topic & offer up your feedback
'bout something truly special seemingly coming to an end in mid-Sept.
& how you feel not only the Japanese will handle it but all their fans the
World over.

It'll be interesting to read the 'different slants.'

Ventures Fan Fest / 2014 FAN FEST VIDEO CLIPS!
« on: January 16, 2015, 08:03:51 pm »
As walt & I inch closer to formulating last year's FAN FEST
MASTERS, after which I start duplicating the actual DVD's,
we've decided to UPLOAD to my YOUTUBE channel certain
footage that doesn't fit into the 'pure music' category.  This
allows us to offer up (5) high quality discs that contain over
100 surf/rock instrumentals.

By going to https://www.youtube.com/user/tab11balt11, you can NOW
check out various video clips covering our morning breakfast
gathering, initial opening remarks, the introduction of several
'special guests & the auction.  There is a brief description with
every set of clips that further enhances viewing pleasure!

You can also go here:  https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkBe9XRqc5RmfsQKn0wOVap7O5Ixa9oU7
and maybe find a few more?

ENJOY.

If you've placed an order for this year's set, there are two extra
DVD's included that will include 'some' of this YOUTUBE material,
selected interviews of the jammers & a photo slideshow spanning
the entire day's activities!

We expect to start shipping out all paid orders within the first
few weeks of next month!

Kindest regards, Tom B.

Ventures Fan Fest / A HOLIDAY TREAT!
« on: November 08, 2014, 10:59:54 am »
Now that the 6th annual VENTURES EAST COAST FAN FEST
is history & 'officially declared' by the majority of our jammers
as 'the best fest ever,' I'd like to formally take this opportunity to
thank everyone involved in the 'overall process.'

It's 'so easy' for everyone to throw kudos my way since I'm the
so-called yearly host but special mention needs to go to all my
UNPAID HELPERS.   Why we can't even say they work for peanuts.
These are the individuals that are present year after year not only at
the event but 'all along the way' leading up to it with suggestions, etc.
The phone calls, skype's & E-mails are numerous to say the least.

Jeff Green
Dennis Cote
Rodger Lank
Walt Stagner
Bernie Kester
Jim McGowan
Dave Zelinsky

Now for the holiday treat news:   As in past years, Walt & I will be
puttin' together a FEST DVD SET that encompass the 12 hours we
spent on SAT. OCT. 4TH honoring our musical heroes THE VENTURES.
This year we even took the offerings a step further climaxing the evening
with THE VENTURES cover THE BEACH BOYS.   Additionally be aware that all
told, counting two featured bands that played 90 minutes apiece- THE PICKNIKS
& BONGO STRAITS, there were 9 total pairings.

'Cause two video cameras were used this time 'round, we don't anticipate having
a 'finished product' 'til sometime 'tween Thanksgiving & Xmas but rest assure it'll
most likely involve a total of 8 DVD's.   Particulars for pre-ordering are below:

COST:   $35 USA, CANADA    $40 OVERSEAS

PAY BY CHECK OR PAY PAL:

Tom Baltaeff  1101 Bryan St.  Drexel Hill, Pa.  19026    E-mail- tabalt11@yahoo.com

Remember patronizing now gives us a leg up money-wise towards all '015 expenses!

« on: October 20, 2014, 10:49:49 am »
That's just it- I don't have many on hand.

& I'd like to intersperse the 'finalized' DVD's
with several batches if possible so A PLEA
goes out to anyone in attendance that day
that saw fit to document parts of the event.

Send what you have to my E-mail:

Thanx for your attention in this regard!

Ventures Fan Fest / FEST HOST JUST DYIN' TO...
« on: May 27, 2014, 12:32:56 pm »
For all our 'regular' jammers that dutifully attend the fan fest each & every year,
host Tom B. (that's me) would like all of you to know that I've been 'religiously'
practicing at THE DRUM KIT at least three times a week since last year's event!

Not sure what that means in reference to this year, other than I plan to be much
more involved within the pairings!   We've lost a key drummer to the proceedings
in Tom Connolly & someone is needed to take up some of that slack.   Thankfully,
other options exist as well.

I've taken the liberty of listing just about 20 tracks below that would be a breeze
for me to handle.   As song lists from the jammers are due in by the first week of
June, won't 'you guys' consider selecting a tune or two with yours truly in mind.
I'd like to say "you won't regret it" but that MIGHT BE be lying.

Here goes:

UNDERGROUND FIRE, THE SWINGIN' CREEPER, HARLEM NOCTURNE, GREENFIELDS,
NIGHT TRAIN, BLUE SUNSET, MORGAN, TRAMBONE, LAST DATE, GIRL FROM IPANEMA,
THE LOOK OF LOVE, NEEDLES & PINS, ONLY THE YOUNG, TALL COOL ONE, TEQUILA,
SUKIYAKI, A TASTE OF HONEY, TOMORROW'S LOVE, CALIFORNIA DREAMIN' & LOVE
GODDESS OF VENUS

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Ventures Fan Fest / 2014 FAN FEST ID
« on: April 24, 2014, 09:40:52 am »
Every year when it comes time to post
'the design' for the FAN FEST ID's, I
call upon co-moderator & good
friend Walt Stagner to help
downsize the image so
it gets uploaded.

I'm so proud of this year's 'look.'   Usually,
a guitar is part of the scheme but couldn't
find anything but acoustics so went this
route!

Thanks Walt- we appreciate it!

Ventures Fan Fest / NEVER TOO EARLY...
« on: January 26, 2014, 03:35:45 pm »
For the 'fan fest host' to put his 'thinkin ' cap'
on for the next gathering- OCTOBER 4th this
year.

Bob Spalding, our special guest at the event
the last four years has 'consistently' said to
me at each fest's conclusion- "Tom let's try
to come up with something special for next
year."

In 2012 only two day after our fest, some of
the local fans here took Bob & his wife Artie on
a tour of THE MARTIN GUITAR FACTORY in
Nazereth, Pa.   Just minutes after finishing the
tour, Bob was treatin' us to his own version of
CLASSICAL GAS.   Needless to say that turned
into a 'special acoustic segment' at last year's
gathering.

This year I've decided in conjunction with our
headlining band THE PICKNIKS to incorporate
SOME JAZZ NUMBERS into the mix.   We have
quite a few competent guitarists on hand that
will have no problem handling this genre.   Why
in the back of my mind (if he's willing) I see Mr.
Spalding himself offerin' up several acoustic solos
within the songs selected.   Still workin' on titles!

My first idea.   They may or may not be others.
We do 'already have' scheduled a 45 minute segment
towards the end of the day titled:   THE VENTURES play
THE BEACH BOYS.   We're leanin' towards a twelve song
offering where all the jammers get involved doin' titles that
were never covered by 'our heroes.'

Deposit for the KNIGHT'S venue will officially take place on
March 4th ensuring a full day's jammin' come October!

Ventures Fan Fest / WE'RE DAY'S AWAY...
« on: October 08, 2013, 03:52:26 pm »
From our FIFTH annual Ventures East Coast Fan Fest.

Haven't done much reporting here on the event so here's
an update.

1.   Decided to have 'commemorative tees' made up for this
years gathering.   Walt will attach a photo showing the
design we went with.   The shirt was not dated purposely
since we plan to have our jammers place their ID CARDS
      on the front!

2.   Del Halterman long time Ventures fan & fest supporter
shipped me a tube containing five 'vintage concert posters'
from the band's touring years in Japan to be used as 'auction
      items!'

3.   Bob Spalding E-mailed this week to let me know that he intends
to 'expand' his 'special acoustic set' to include MEXICO, LIMBO ROCK
& BLUE SUNSET.   He was already penciled in for CLASSICAL GAS!

4.   There will be ten pairings- most playing a dozen songs apiece & that's
in addition to our featured band THE PICKNIKS.

5.   Lastly & get this- the fest runs all day from 9 AM - 9 PM.   Yes I'm the
'fest host,' but there isn't a better $50 value out there 'specially when
you add in the comp. breakfast & dinner buffet.    Of course, it's necessary
that you enjoy listening to rock instrumental music 'til the cows come home!

Now Walt would you please 'ice this post' by showing everyone what those
'commemorative tees' look like!
