Tour Dates / THE EGYPTIAN THEATER- Park City, Utah
« on: February 16, 2012, 11:10:14 pm »
And the concert dates just keep on comin.'  I'm sure The Ventures are quite satisfied at this early date in 2012 with their relatively
new booking agency.  The LATEST set of dates arrives in May- specifically Fri. the 18th thru Sun. the 20th.   The Ventures website
uses the word HISTORIC in the description of THE EGYPTIAN THEATER.   The shows Fri. & Sat. are at 8:00 & the Sun. show at 6:00.

The Guitars of The Ventures / Re: Intresting Thread on the Mosrite Forum
« on: February 16, 2012, 11:03:51 pm »
Great thread Walt.  Since the whole topic is such a SORE SPOT with the group, as fans we'd only be given
bits & pieces of the actual story & had to try to piece together everything but Bob Shade pretty much takes THE
STORY from beginning to end.  I replied to Bob that while in Florida next month, I'll try to get a definite answer from
Don on the wherabouts of the warehouse.  That might have been downsized to one of the large garages on his property.

Ventures Fan Fest / Re: 2012 FEST-PROPER PRESPECTIVE!
« on: February 15, 2012, 12:43:40 pm »
Noel- YES IT IS.  Just got back from my hook up with mgmt. at the DAY'S INN.
Happy to report that he has a large room off from the lobby that can be split
into 50 chair sittings.  Also no problem settin' up a couple amps for tutoring.
Why he was even nice enough to FORGE AHEAD on his wall calendar & pencil
our VENTURES GROUP in for Oct. 12th.  He won't be able to provide me a rate
per night 'til after bookings start trickling in 'round Aug.   But don't worry, you'll
CERTAINLY be part of the action.

Noel- The MEET & GREET/TUTORING SESSIONS is 'something new' for this year so I still have to firm up separate room availability & prices at the motel.
Will stop by & chat with mgmt. shortly.  The send off breakfast happens every year.   As far as dinner out, everybody involved simply chips in their fair
share at the end of the night.  The addresses provided won't change- maybe the times slightly so just keep your eyes out for the ADVANCE NOTICE
reminders.

Ventures Fan Fest / 2012 FEST-PROPER PRESPECTIVE!
« on: February 15, 2012, 01:18:31 am »
This post represents a different MARKETING approach for this year's FAN FEST.  Oh we plan to approach it in much the same way-
with a bit of tinkering here & there but what hasn't been emphasized is that while the ACTUAL EVENT occurs for approximately 12
hours beginning with a COMPLIMENTARY BREAKFAST early on, out of towners usually arrive Fri. afternoon at the DESIGNATED MOTEL
for lodging.  The past two years, as host I've met up with those early arrivees 'round 6 or 7 in the evening at which time we head off
for a welcoming dinner & yes that includes any special guests that are part of the actual fest.   Then come Sun. AM after checking out,
all involved have the option of attending a SEND OFF BREAKFAST- again compliments of the host.

THE MESSAGE hear being that 75% of the total crowd gathered Sat. can lay claim to pretty much SPENDING A WEEKEND honoring THE
VENTURES!

So in addition to the earlier TENTATIVE SCHEDULE for Saturday October 13th, please take the time to digest the additional details below.

Friday  - October 12th:    Day's Inn 1300 Providence Ave. Chester, Pa.

   5:30  PM -   8:30 PM     MEET UP/TUTORING CLINICS
9:00  PM - 11:00 PM     RIDDLE ALE HOUSE BEEF 'N BEER

Sunday - October 14th:    Tom Jones Restaurant 4417 Edgmont Ave. Brookhaven, Pa.

8:30  AM - 10:00 AM     SEND OFF BREAKFAST

Drums and Drummers / ARTICLE/INTERVIEW W/ LEON
« on: February 13, 2012, 03:08:44 pm »
This April 2008 article features a super long interview with Leon Taylor, the band's
great drummer & son of the late Mel Taylor.  Leon took over behind the kit at Dad's
request back in '96.  The interview took place right after the group's LONG OVERDUE
induction into the ROCK HALL OF FAME.   The link was extracted from UNDERGROUND
FIRE 2 & I thank Paul van der Veen for the initial post.

Penned by long standing Ventures fans Malcolm Campbell & Allan Burke,
this represents another MUST HAVE addition for your VENTURES LIBRARY.
I've taken the liberty of extracting the DOWNLOAD LINK from the UF2 forum.
Once I glove on it- I'll be privy to this wealth of information for the VERY FIRST
time as well!

Ventures Fan Fest / 2011 FAN JAM GROUP PHOTO
« on: February 09, 2012, 12:49:59 pm »
Del Halterman member & author of WDR- The Story Of The Ventures
while reviewing our 2011 FAN JAM DVD COLLECTION suggested it would be KEEN (my word not his) to post the group photo from that October afternoon along with the names of the attendies pictured.

What's irritating is that there were at least a dozen other people standing in the parking lot that were either more interested in taking the same photo or merely not interested at all being included in the group.  Then we had several family members who showed up out of curiosity & oh yeah to grab a slice of pizza & beverage.   In fact I later found out one of them walked off with an entire pie.  Certainly a MOST DASTARDLY DEED & no I haven't figured out which family member.

Anyway I'll do the best I can to list left to right- here goes:

John Ramski, Bob Kenney, Grant Green, Wing Lee, Dave Copnall, Ken Arnold, Bernie Kester, Joey Pasteris, Jim Sabatino, Carl Hubler, Bud Hubler, Dave Zelinsky, Bob & Miranda Shade, Steve Chestnut, Chris Monk, Walt Stagner, Bob Leo, Joe Klink, Dennis Cote, John Magee, Gary Essex, Mike Kuhn, Candy Timpanelli, Dennis (Moose) Brown, Rich Carozza, Tom Barosso, Byron Tietjen, Michael Waters, Vincent Kan, Mary Ellen Magee, Rich Miller, Rodger Lank, Julie & Jeff Green, Vic Hines, Kanad & Suagata Ghose, Artie & Ian Spalding, Tom Connolly, Bob Spalding, Leon Taylor & MYSELF

Ventures Fan Fest / 2012 VENUE CONFIRMATION
« on: February 08, 2012, 02:13:02 pm »
Happy to report gang that this year's FAN FEST VENUE has been confirmed for Saturday October 13th.  We'll be returning
to the KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS hall located in Crum Lynne Pa.  The hall has a dinner capacity of 200 & tho the rental fee is
slightly higher this time 'round, I received rave reviews 'bout the place from most of the jammers & those 2 guys from THE
VENTURES!   Mark Troutman, our bartender wanted me to say HELLO to everyone.   'I had a blast' was just one of several
remarks he made over the phone.

Interviews & Praise / Re: WALK DON'T RUN- The Story Of The Ventures
« on: February 07, 2012, 05:29:50 pm »
Del is now saying that only the second edition is available.   There were some key revisions throughout without sacrificing
any content & the book's overall size is somewhat smaller.   Just a tease here but under THE BLAZER PHOTO, it says 'from
construction workers to the rock 'n roll hall of fame.'    This is a NO BRAINER for any collection.

Ventures Fan Fest / Re: TENTATIVE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
« on: February 07, 2012, 11:21:55 am »
As part of any signed agreement with the hall, we're allowed a two hour setup period at NO CHARGE.  Last year we paid from 11:00 AM - 9 PM &
were even given an extra 30 minutes grace time to pack everything up.   I suppose if the hall opens at 9 AM like last year & THE PICKNIKS begin
at 10:30 instead of 11:00, we won't be penalized since Mark the bartender took to the music right away & was seen movin' & groovin' up a storm.

Interviews & Praise / WALK DON'T RUN- The Story Of The Ventures
« on: February 07, 2012, 08:56:42 am »
This is the ULTIMATE SOURCE on the career of The Ventures.   We're talkin' 386 pages here.   Penned by long standing fan Del Halterman, this represents the MOST DEFINITIVE log available for the most popular & biggest selling group in the history of recorded music.

Collaborated on with both part founding member Bob Bogle & Don Wilson's mom Josie, no stone is left unturned.  Now in its second printing & including details & pics from their induction into the ROCK HALL OF FAME this is a MUST for all die-hard Ventures fans.

Not sure if both editions are available.  Two different covers were used- originally COLORFUL VENTURES & more recently THE VENTURES!   I'll be back shortly with a couple links; one for placing orders & one for general discussion.
