Ah Walt, glad you found it!  I didn't post it, but someone must have read our thoughts!

Have a listen too to Ghost Train by dear old Bert...great stuff!

Yes, Bert was a gentleman as well as a great guitarist and his version of ginchy was brill. Check out his Nashville boogie as well.

Well I suppose they got hold of records from UK and elsewhere- the Ventures did a few tunes of the Shadows , Bert and others..

Didn't take but a week or two to get records ordered and sent by airmail back then!  I'm sure they kept an ear out for new material from outside of the USA- the Australian hit Bombora by our top instro group The Atlantics was also covered in the USA..

Bert is a great sentimental favourite of many Brits like me of a certain age group, he was on a kids TV show every week showing a new chord and playing his latest releases in the early '60's....he used big Golden Hofner electric archtops until about 1960/1, then he used Guild Starfires for a few years afterwards...usually with heavy strings, and British Selmer or Burns amps and a Selmer tape echo unit.  Much later he used Yamaha AE 200 model guitars and Marshall amps (he was an old friend of Jim Marshall)

It's really unfortunate that the world was a much larger place then and those of us growing up in the USA didn't have EZ access to Bert, Cliff, the Shads, etc.  Also unfortunate the Shads didn't have the Apache hit here (and no Cliff either).  We did get "stuck" w/the Beetles tho and they killed the instro and other fun moosic we enjoyed at that time.  :'(

Yes Walt, and most guys in bands threw out the hair oil, combed their hair forward, changed or abandoned their matching stage suits and traded their Strats, Jags etc for hollowbody Gretsches, Ricks, Gibsons, Guilds etc ...

Bert had a best selling LP here called Golden Guitar classics where he covered all the top instro hits of the shadows/ventures/Duane.  May still be available on ebay.
Just out is a 'Heroes collection' With all Bert's own hits including Ginchy/ghost train
and his other chart hits. A real Gent (I had the pleasure of meeting him once, told him I'd lost his recording of Petite Fleur and couldn't replace it and he kindly sent it to me.) sadly missed.
