A Stratocaster for Don's very early "sound"

(1/1)

abstamaria:
Here is a Stratocaster that our band just acquired to complement the sunburst "Walk Don't Run" Jazzmaster shown in the earlier thread, for that very early Bob-Bogle/Don-Wilson sound.  It’s a new 1956-spec Stratocaster in three-tone sunburst, with a soft V neck and 3-way switch, fitted with fat flatwounds.
Don’s first Stratocaster, which he traded in later, must have looked like this, with an all-maple neck.  We hope it nails the sound.

The trouble with covering the Ventures is that the’59 Jazzmaster and ’56 Stratocaster combination will probably be spot-on only for perhaps not more than 15 Ventures pieces, the earliest ones where Bob Bogle played lead.  We can't wait to try this one.

I'm reading this very much. I do not know if you took this information come from it.

Nokie:
That's a nice 3-color sunburst but are you sure it's a 1956 spec? A '56 would be a two-color burst. I think Don had a '58 or '59 Strat. '58 was the first year with the 3-color sunburst. -Marty
