The website has been removed for some reason!

I found an alternative here. Type "Gerry McGee" into the searchbox on the top right:

Does anyone know any details of this rare photo - who are the other musicians? The signatures are hard to decipher:

Does anyone know what the red effects pedal on the front cover of The Ventures on stage around the world (1965) is?

Marshall Crenshaw gave BELOVED INVADERS a solid 5/5 stars in his book: "Hollywood Rock: A Guide to Rock 'n' Roll in the Movies". He also describes Nokie Edwards as the most unconscious rock god ever!!

They certainly found the experimental sounds that they were told to look for. Were they the first to play beyond the nut/behind the bridge? The only other guitarists I can think of who have done that are Gene Moles on 'Twin Pipes' and Duane Eddy on 'Monsoon'. Also some country guitarists bend notes behind the nut. Anyone know of any others?

General Discussion / Re: Live Christmas tunes??
« on: December 05, 2013, 05:13:46 pm »

Thanks for your replies. I'm surprised that they did not do more of this or each year prior to Christmas. The non hard-core Ventures fans would recognize the Christmas tunes and enjoy them.

Does anyone know if The Ventures ever played any tunes from their Christmas album live and are there any recordings?

General Discussion / Re: The Ventures’ Unsung Guitarists

In fact, once I became aware of all the live in japan stuff, I rarely lissen to any of the studio records unless we're learnin 2 play something.

As I've repeatedly stated, elsewhere on FOTV, we played many toons the V never played live with Nokie.  H

I agree with you Walt - usually the live versions were better than the recorded ones. I read somewhere that they played tunes like Green Grass and 10 seconds to heaven live during the 60's. They would have played not album and single tunes to promote them then they would never get played again. I wish I had live versions of my all my favorite tunes by them and not 1000's of versions of the  hits and other tunes they always play live. A great treat to already have live recordings of Summertime, San, Night train and Vibrations.

Joe Saraceno did not play an instrument but Dick Glasser played the guitar. Didn't he write Bluer than blue? Apparently there is an unreleased version of Kansas City from the same session musicians that played the infamous More and Wipe Out.

General Discussion / Overdubbing
« on: July 11, 2013, 01:32:45 pm »

It seems that The Ventures never really got into overdubbing. Instead they would usually employ session musicians (makes sense regarding keyboard players eg. Leon Russell... as none of them could play that instrument). I can only think of one album off the top of my head : Hollywood Dynamic in which Bob Bogle triple dubbed his guitar. Can anyone think of any more? Interesting comparison to The Shadows who were very much into overdubbing guitar parts. The Ventures had the same technology to do this  - I'm surprised that Nokie never (?) overdubbed an extra guitar part or Mel overdubbed castanets, tambourine, etc.

Very nice - just like the one Takechi Terauchi used.

Possibly El Greco or The Savage.
