Ventures Fan Fest / Re: '016 FAN FEST- Tentative Set Lists!
« on: July 10, 2016, 07:31:18 am »
Walt & Rich Miller need help putting together a quartet. We were planning on an acoustic duet set but travel plans will make this difficult. I'm driving up from Fla and my wife and I will be doing a Civil Tour enroute. I just don't feel comfortable leaving an acoustic in a hot car all day as we tour the battlefields.

We're looking for help on rhythm and a drummer for our two sets below.

ASAP !!

7:00 PM - 7:45 PM    (Rich Miller & Walt Stagner)   ACOUSTIC DUET

We've got approx 45 mins, so we'll see how many of these we can fit in, since we don't waist time talkin'.
If someone thinks they can play bass, rithm or drums.....let me know.
Otherwise it's juss the 2 uf us.

Rich's set:

Theme from Young Lovers (Shadows)
Shindig (Shadows)
Peace Pipe (extended Ventures version ie played 2x)
Go Go Slow (2 bridges)

Walt's set:

Blue Bird
Blue Chateau
Joker's Wild
Tomorrow's Love
Up, up and away
Lonely Girl

got the ok for a road trip to Philly in Oct for The Ventures Fest and some Civil War tours. I'll have to find out what songs Walt will be playing so I can work on them.

See you in October.

I have to work out details of our Boise ID trip in October which is the end of that month.
Perhaps we can make a road trip to Gettysburg and then swing up to Philly? Bonn's always wanted to visit there.
Are you in need of a bass player Walt?  I'll have to p/u up a Fender Chinese bass cheap again.

Anything is possible.

Walt and Tom , I got one hour of practice in yesterday evening. Worked on the Ventures songs from the front of the book using the midi files. I'm amazed how easily the leads came back to me. And in fact I slept like a baby last night. I do need music in my life.

we already have two trips planned for this year. In June we head to South Carolina for a new grandchild arrival and in October we fly to Idaho for a birthday.

As Sean Connery said about acting in another James Bond movie. "Never say never again."

We shall see Tom.

Hey Tom the "Great Prognosticator" drafted me. I was actually expecting it to happen.

Some very interesting songs. Now what would be really interesting if you had some way to track what country, state, city in the world the "views" were made from. Might give a truly international scope to the web page.

Walt if you look at the chords and tabs pages "10" of them you can see how many "VIEWS", or "HITS" per tab. Which gives you a pretty good indication of how many geetar players are hopefully trying yo master the Ventures tunes.

Can you scroll through the "VIEWS" and perhaps make a list of the top 10 or 20 viewed songs to see what the Ventures fans clamor for?

Thanks,

I concur on the round wounds 10-42's are my choice.

Hey Walt I was just looking at the chords & tabs page and we have some songs with over 1000 hits and Telstar with over 4,000 hits. Must be lots of guitar heads out in their garages working out these tunes.

Can you give us a list of the top 10 or 20 hits?

Rich Miller

PS - A big thanks to the late Bill Kestell for charting these Venture tunes and making them available to us all!!!!!!!!!!!!  ;-)

Bass and Bass Players / Re: Good bass players are tuff to find.

Tanks for the complement Walt. I do miss the bass playing but distance limits the possibilities now. It was a great ride and thanks for all of the recording you've done to keep those moments alive.

The real question Jeff is? Did Nokie use flat wound strings, which I believe was all that was available at this time? Or did he use round wound strings?

Those flat wound are just dead sounding but definately identifiable when heard and very distinctive.

Bill Kestell preferred flat wounds on bass but I hate them.
