OK.   I've taken a stab at tabbing this out. It was challenging because you have to be really nimble in some places to play these licks...that Nokie played so effortlessly :-/.

This is my take on it, the tab may not be 100% accurate and you may find better ways to play some of it...if you do, please post updates.

Thought I'd ask...anyone have tab for the Ventures version of Steel Guitar Rag?   If not I'll probably take a stab at it.
Steel Guitar Rag was originally recorded in 1936 by Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys....Featuring pedal steel.   The Ventures covered this in 1963 with no pedal steel (as many groups have done).    I've learned parts of different versions over the years but wanted to get this one down.

I'm pretty sure Nokie plays the lead in the 1963 version.   I'm posting 2 videos below...one of the 1963 recording I am referring to, and another of Nokie playing this 33 years later (where he really lets loose, and makes it look easy).  I really like the way Nokie can approximate the pedal steel sound at times.

Jeff's comments are right on.   I really like the jazzy feel this tune has as well..
Anyway, I have completed my take at tab for this.  I don't think the 2nd verse is quite right...I cant get the ringing sound of the strings...it may be played in a different position on the neck, but this is close. 
Any updates or corrections are welcome.

I was listening to this the other day and thought I knew how to play it....until I picked up my guitar and realized that I did not..  Anyone have tab for this?      If not I'll dig in and figure it out....it's fun anyways.

So there are 2 different recordings.    I'm referring to the version on the 1960 Walk Don't Run Album (A cover of the original 1951 version by Jimmy Forrest).   They also recorded a different version in 1964.    Here is the 1960 version I am referring to.

Anyway...I finally completed tabbing this out. As Jeff notes, the recording is in F#/Gd.   I pushed it through Audacity to move it up to G.   So, here is my take on it. Any corrections or enhancements are welcome.

This is related and interesting.  Recording by Don Markham....The Ventures recorded his song.  This is the text that goes with it:

This tune, "The Shuck", reached it's potential on The Ventures album, "The Ventures", Dolton LP #2004. Don Markham and Gary "Skip & Flip", "Monster Mash" Paxton composed the tune.  Don Markham toured with The Ventures early in their career(1960), and without a doubt, Don Markham is the resource from which The Ventures picked this tune.Don Markham went on to become a saxophonist for Merle Haggard's Strangers.  He stayed with Merle and The Strangers for 4 decades.  Don Markham passed away February 24, 2017, at age 85.

OK...I'm finally getting back to this.    Who played the lead on the recording....was this Nokie?   It did not seem like Bob Bogle style to me.

I tried working this out in a few different positions (around the 4th fret, around the 12th fret, with some open strings)   but have settled on the tab below. This sounded the best to me and for me was the easiest to play.     I welcome any corrections or improvements.

At some point I'll work out the backing guitar parts....but for now this is what I have.

Thanks for the input.   You are a much more adept player than I.   I think I'll have an easier time learning how to put a capo on than I will in learning to play the modulated part... :-)

Hello everyone.....

Was Mel Taylor a part of the wrecking crew?  I thought I read that somewhere but don't remember where.    I've seen that photo of him on drums and Hal Blaine playing tambourine.      If yes...what songs (other than Monster Mash) did he play on.
